Works on about 10 projects in which Sreekumar figures are held up in view of the accident, sources in film industry said.

Pooja Gandhi's Dandupalya facing hurdles for release

Pooja Gandhi's Dandupalya has been drawing the attention of the audience for its controversial content on the real life story of a gang of ruthless vampires. Especially, the film became the talk of the town after the actress went topless for an important scene in the upcoming Kannada movie. Now, these are becoming hurdles for its release.

A social group named Bahujan Samaj Horata Samiti is strongly opposing the release of Dandupalya claiming that the movie not only shows a woman in a bad taste but also the content of the film is highly objectionable. In fact, it has demanded the state government and the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce to ban the film, as the film pollutes the minds of the youth.

Adding to that several organisations have also opposed the title of the upcoming film and have written to the KFCC to change the title of the film. However, the makers of Dandupalya are adamant to change the title of the film.

Dandupalya is based on the real life incidents of notorious gang named Dandupalya – a name of a village situated on the Bangalore-Chennai National Highway four. They spread terror in and around Bangalore by slitting the throats of women and the aged and then robbing them.

No lip-lock for Samantha in NEP

Charming youngster Samantha will neither be kissing her co-star in Neethaane En Ponvasantham nor she will be a part of any intimate scene. The actress has clarified that there aren't any such sequences in the forthcoming multilingual film.

There were buzz that Samantha might have to kiss three actors in the different versions of Neethaane En Ponvasantham. As the actress did such scenes in Gautham Menon's earlier movie Yem Maaye Chesave, the Telugu version of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, the 24-something girl was comfortable and agreed to share lip-locks with all her co-stars.

Now, the actress has said that the script of Neethaane En Ponvasantham doesn't demand it. However, Samantha will be romancing Jeeva in the Tamil version, Nani in Telugu and Aditya Roy Kapoor in the Hindi version.

Her statuesque figure, international face and sensibilities have made her the face of both Hollywood and Bollywood. No other Indian artist has been spoken about, in the international glamour world in recent times. We are talking about BIG CBS Love’s India’s Glam Diva contender Freida Pinto, the girl-next-door, who wooed a million hearts. With her impressive debut performance as Latika in Slumdog Millionaire, she got, accolades, awards, applauds and recognition, as one of India’s biggest artist on the global map. A little known model from the suburbs of Mumbai her rise was much like her film “Rise of the planet of the apes”, to the proverbial big league player, competing with the big boys of cinema. The girl with a humble upbringing, dreamt big, but was baffled at the magnitude and speed at which it unfolded.

Destiny’s poster child, her transformation was so fast from complete anonymity to one of the newborn queens of Western cinema, that the world had no choice but to sit up and take notice! Whether it be block-busters such as “The rise of the planet of the Apes”, or be it working with renowned directors such as Woody Allen in “You will meet a tall dark stranger”, her body of work show how this young girl has created a niche for herself in Hollywood.

The success of Slumdog Millionaire was merely a means to an end for the ambitious and intelligent Freida Pinto. She realised that it was this very success of the film that required the biggest plan of action to come into play and it is this moment in Freida’s life that defined where she is today. Her star status is huge and her fans are all over the globe, but her heart lies right here in Mumbai, which is her home and with boyfriend Dev Patel.

Salman Khan wants Kareena's Dabangg 2 item song to be different

Salman Khan is apparently doing all that it takes to ensure that Kareena Kapoor's item song in Dabangg 2 is completely different from her item number 'Yeh Mera Dil' from Don 2 with Shahrukh Khan playing the male lead in the film.

Salman Khan has reportedly made it clear that Dabangg 2 item number will feature him and Kareena Kapoor. As per sources, when somebody suggested the idea of a remix, Salman Khan dismissed the idea and made it clear that he does not want any remix of any old cabaret hit songs like 'Yeh Mera Dil'.
The buzz is that Salman Khan along with Dabangg 2 music directors, Sajid-Wajid sat together to compose a track that is catchy, rustic and very different from 'Munni badnaam hui' or 'Chikni chameli' or any other item numbers seen on screen until now.

Kareena Kapoor will apparently rehearse with choreographer Ganesh Hegde or Farah Khan for at least two weeks for the special item song in Dabangg 2.

Tapasya the Chikni Chameli of TV

The festivity surrounding Holi is not over yet as your favourite bahus - Anandi, Phulwa, Simar, Roli and Siddhi brighten this weekend with the annual Holi bash - Rang De Colors today at 1 pm and 5 pm on Colors.

The artists recreated Spain's La Tomatina festival and dunked each other in a tomato pit, living each moment a la the Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara cast. Bigg Boss fame Pooja Misrra tried escaping the gulaal being flung at her by BB4 housemates Amarr Upadhyay and Shraddha Sharma seemed adamant to not "spare her".

Tapasya flaunted her inner Katrina with her rendition of Chikni Chameli and Seema bhabhi (from Parichay) sizzled like Vidya to O la la. Simar and Prem painted a mural of Radha-Krishna with gulaal while swooning to the title track of Kisna. Jagya-Gauri swayed to some retro tracks. From drinking bhang to smashing eggs, all the artists let down their guards and doused each other in colours, water et al.

Ranbir Kapoor sets a record

Ranbir Kapoor recently shot for a short film that has entered the record books for using 100 cars in a four-minute film.

There were a lot of young girls on the sets who were part of the film. One of them gifted Ranbir a windchime on the last day of the shoot. RK was so touched with the gesture that he has put up the windchime in his house!

Says Bipasha, "I am happy to perform and am excited that I will get to see that day's matches. I am an ardent supporter of all things that lead to fitness and am looking forward to this one." Co-owner of SFL Raj Kundra is all praise for Bips. "She's one of the best performers on stage. We wanted someone sexy with oomph that the youth can connect with. Her songs from Race will suit the mood that comes with real fighting," he assures.

I don’t like being called nawab: Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan was at his wittiest best during a whistlestop promotional tour to Ahmedabad.

Sporting a trendy new hair cut and smart casuals that took years off his actual choronological age, Saif looked like young corporate hi-flier on a day out. He flashed a toothy grin and attibuted his 'young' look to his "hairstylist" who says the actor, "knows what makes me look younger and better. I must praise him for this one," says Saif. He also confessed that he didn't really "like being addressed as Nawab saab" and finds the official title too "formal."

Prod him whether he too, like Aamir Khan, has started taking up the one film a year trend, Saif immediately is on a defensive mode, "Only in 2011 I had one release Aarakshan, otherwise I ensure that I do at least three films in a year."

So what's lined up next for the Nawab saab in 2012? "I've just completed working on Cocktail with director Homi Adajania and will take up the work on a zombie comedy tentatively titled Go Goa Gone with Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK (of Shor In The City fame)."

Saif says working with director Sriram Raghavan has been a good experience. "It was great working again with Sriram after Ek Haseena Thi." He quips, "In real life I respect women, but in my new film I am an agent who can slap a woman!" Now, do we take up the task of connecting dots here with recent slapgate case of this actor? Saif maintains a "no comments" stance to that.

Does Saif make it a point to take up movies of different genres? "Doing different roles and moving out of one's comfort zone is essential for every actor. And I'm much happy doing different characters. It feels good when people remember you for a newer character that you've played." And what's his take on remakes of yesteryear films? "There have been so many good films in the past - hence, remakes with a contemporary touch will make for a good attempt."

Salman Khan wants one rupee more than SRK

T here's a story going around about two of the big Khans in Bollywood - Salman and Shah Rukh. As everyone knows, Salman is the most bankable star in the Hindi film industry today with the most number of films that have crossed the `100 crore mark and also that the two stars are no longer on talking terms.

But now, it looks like there's even competition in their pay scales. The rumour is that Salman called Aditya Chopra to his farmhouse when they approached him for his latest film and when the subject of remuneration came up, he allegedly said he wanted `1 more than what SRK gets!

Since the days of Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, and then Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan, there has always been competition between actors on-screen and off screen. The 'one rupee more, please' salary issue supposedly existed even then and the south film industries are no different.

Actors who are seen as arch rivals on-screen apparently want to score higher than their competitors even in terms of money. And it's not large amounts but just a single rupee that can make a difference to their happiness.

At the same time, actors constantly try to woo the favourite producers of other actors. For instance, the Chopras always favoured Shah Rukh but signing on the successful Salman might have rankled the former's equation, say some industry insiders. And if Salman actually asked for a rupee more, then it looks like entertainment is all just a game of one-upmanship

Nargis faces flack for 'Rockstar' performance

Histrionics clearly has no parameters in Bollywood these days. No fixed definitions can demarcate a good actor from a bad except personal opinions. When the time comes to rate the performance of one actor against the other, all one is reduced to doing is – making personal opinions counter other personal opinions.
Nargis Frakhri, a 30 something, gorgeous Kingfisher Calendar Girl lands the role of Heer Kaul in Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Rockstar’. Starring opposite Ranbir Kapoor – who perhaps played out the best role of his career – Nargis is a damp squib. Her acting talents needs serious training. For a director like Imtiaz Ali, who transformed Brazillian model Giselle Monteiro in to a believable, shy, lovely Punjabi girl - one wonders why he went wrong with Nargis.
Playing the role that can be best described as a lively, mischievous Kashmiri beauty – Nargis looks the part to the hilt. She is perfectly beautiful. But at this point one must add – Ranbir’s acting force leaves her gasping – metaphorically and literally.
Ranbir Kapoor's Nargis vs Raj Kapoor's Nargis
Ranbir makes Janardhan (JJ) believable, he makes Jordan believable. From an awkward wannabe singer in the DU college canteens to the suffering romantic rockstar – Ranbir has proved his mettle. After stunning performances in ‘Rajneeti’ and ‘Wake Up Sid’ – Ranbir is clearly moving from strength to strength. And in this movie – Nargis is dead weight.
Nargis as Heer does not even manage to make her mischievous statements seem fun. She says ‘Jungli Jawani’ without the crazed naughtiness making it to her eyes. She doesn’t look one bit melancholic when she decks up for her wedding – almost asking JJ to run away with her. The scene is reminiscent of ‘Jab We Met’ – but in that scene – it seemed that Geet (Kareena) would make a dash for the door dragging Shahid Kapoor (Aditya) along – whether he wanted it or not. Heer instead, glides away to get married. When she cries at the concert hall – after asking Jordan to go away forever – her tears don’t even come. One sees her sob and then she wipes her dry eyes.
The serious lack of expressions, the fact that the smile never reaches her eyes and how she fails to get emotions across – makes this debut get serious ‘thumbdowns’. If it was not for Ranbir, the AR Rahman score and the poetry of pain – ‘Rockstar’ would not have worked. A pained expression that works for her little heart ache and her bone marrow aplesia – both – seems to be the only thing that breaks across her pretty face and the pink pout.
Now, in the absence of rules how does one possibly define good acting?
This school of thought would like to believe that as good actor should make the character he/she plays believable. Starkly and blatantly real – so as every moment of the movie we witness only the character in action – no traits of the man/woman behind the role. The audience should be convinced enough to take for granted – even for a few hours - that in reality – the actor is exactly like the role he/she is playing. If one was to see the actors in ‘real life’ they should be identical to the last role we saw them play.
When the audience watched Kareena Kapoor play the role of Geet in ‘Jab We met’ – they were convinced that the real life Bebo must be like Geet. Priyanka Chopra in ‘Saath Khoon Maaf’ made all her seven avatars seem real – at east for that moment on screen. It would be marginally redundant comparing Nargis to Katrina Kaif. Pretty faces and 'chemistry' cannot carry the weight of a film like ‘Rockstar’ too far. 'Rockstar' is Ranbir's and Ranbir's alone.
'Rockstar' is her debut in Bollywood and Nargis has a long way to go. She will perhaps learn with time – but till then – Sorry Nargis, Heer just did not work for the audience or the critics.
